Nancy Ann (Burke) Ma, age 76, a resident of Tyngsborough, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. She was born in Lowell on April 2, 1947, and was a daughter of the late James and Rita (Shaugrue) Burke, and was educated in the Lowell School system.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the City of Lowell as a crossing guard.
Nancy was a devoted mother, friend, who especially loved her grandchild James, very much. She had MANY friends and knew almost everyone, and she was well known for her smile as soon as she saw someone she knew. Nancy took great pride in decorating her apartment for the seasons and her son’s house even after she moved out. She loved cooking meals for her family, especially a corn beef dinner on St. Paddy’s Day. She also loved going to Rockingham Park and Suffolk Downs to watch her husband race and help her father who was a blacksmith, trainer, and race horse owner at one time. Nancy enjoyed taking trips to Martha’s Vineyard with her family and would always make sure to stop at her favorite restaurant, The Black Dog, for a lobster roll, and she loved having her dog Baba by her side.
She is survived by her husband Henry Ma; two sons, Henry J. Ma and William “Billy” Ma; a grandson, James Ma; a sister, Frances Swiderski; two nephews and their spouses, Robert and Kimberly Swiderski and Shawn and Jaimee Swiderski; and many dear friends. She was also the mother of the late James Ma.
Relatives and friends will be received at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Drive, Tyngsborough, on Tuesday, Feb. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, 282 Suffolk St, Lowell. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell.
