M. Lorraine L’Heureux, age 91, a resident of Lowell, passed away unexpectedly at her home on February 15, 2026, following an extensive illness.
Born in Lowell on September 4, 1934, she was the beloved daughter of the late Ernest A. and Lillian A. (Normand) L’Heureux. She was a proud graduate of Notre Dame de Lourdes Elementary School and St. Joseph High School.
Lorraine was a generous and charitable woman who consistently placed the needs of her community above her own. Her friendly and outgoing nature fostered many lasting friendships throughout her lifetime. She was a longtime active parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Parish in Tyngsborough, where she faithfully served as a member of the parish counting team for many years.
Lorraine found great joy in travel and adventure, especially taking windjammer and riverboat cruises. She cherished her time at Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport, where all were welcome, and the ocean brought her peace and happiness. She traveled extensively throughout Europe, sharing her many photos and slideshows, and loved being on the One Happy Island of Aruba. In recent years, keeping travel closer to home, she enjoyed visiting family in Ohio and New Jersey. Lorraine also delighted in life’s simple pleasures — holiday gatherings with family, cookies, coffee ice cream sodas, and a perfectly made root beer float, as well as the occasional vodka tonic with a lemon.
Prior to her retirement, Lorraine was employed as a Human Resource Representative for over 39 years with Mass Electric, later known as National Grid. She also proudly served her community by working the voting polls for the City of Lowell.
She is survived by her beloved “baby” brother, Leon E. L’Heureux, with whom she resided; Kerry Slattery and Christine Hamilton, whose devoted care, companionship, and love meant so much to Lorraine; several loving and supportive nieces and nephews, grand and great nieces and nephews, and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness. She was predeceased by her brothers Paul and Raymond L’Heureux, and her sisters Claire Poirier, Cecile Brassard, Beatrice Sutcliff, and Therese Eno.
Relatives and friends will be received at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Drive, Tyngsborough on Sunday, Feb. 22, from 2 to 5 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on TUESDAY, Feb. 24, at 12 noon at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 95 Lakeview Avenue Tyngsborough. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a donation in her memory to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration at https://www.theaftd.org/ or Breakthrough T1D at https://www.breakthrought1d.org/
