Dorothea (Simpson) Marinel Obituary

Dorothea 'Dottie' Simpson Marinel

loving mother, grandmother, friend; 90

Dorothea Marinel, affectionately known as 'Dottie' to those who knew and loved her, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2022.

Her family takes comfort in knowing that she was greeted in Heaven by her husband of 70 years, Brian Marinel, along with her son, Douglas, and her mother who she missed dearly.

Dottie's memory failed her in her last year's of life, but those she left behind will never forget her vibrant personality and compassionate heart.

Dottie was born in Chelmsford, MA in 1932 to James and Katherine Simpson, and loved telling stories about her 6 sisters and 3 brothers.

Dottie married her high school sweetheart, Brian 'Buzz' Marinel in 1951 and together, they had three children.

As her first born, Dottie held a special place for Doug, and through his tough exterior, he cared deeply for his mother before his unexpected and premature passing.

As her only daughter, Marlene was Dottie's pride and joy. Devoting her life to Dottie's wellbeing and care, Marlene spent hours by her side. She and her husband, Tom, welcomed Dottie with open arms when life took a turn to provide constant care.

Her baby, Bruce, kept Dottie laughing and she lit up when she spoke of him. He and his wife, Kathy, opened their home to Dottie during her most difficult times, providing the safety, security, and love that she required.

Dottie's life was defined by love and family and she adored her grandchildren and the time she spent with them; Crystal Marinel and husband David; Aaron Marinel and wife Ariel; Jared Marinel and wife Kelly; Ashley Tzelias and husband George; and Tayla Makevich. Dottie was delighted in becoming a great grandmother to Jacob Marinel and wife Veronica, Athenrye, Miles, and Parker Marinel; Andrew Goyette; and Christos Thomas, Alexius, and Anastasia Tzelias.

Dottie took great pride in her time spent working at Raytheon Corporation and valued the friendships she made in her over 30 years with the company.

Dottie looked forward to church services every Sunday, especially singing hymns. She made friends wherever she went with her ability to make those around her feel important. She wrote letters often and made phone calls to family and friends regularly. Dottie enjoyed crafting, baking, and shopping, and was known for her bold fashion and put-together style, never missing her weekly hair appointment on Saturdays.

Dottie's family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Blaire House in Tewksbury and our beloved friend, Beth Tanguay. We appreciate your selflessness and devotion to our beautiful Dottie.

While Dottie was stricken with the terrible and destructive disease of Alzheimer's, her family is comforted in knowing that she lived a long, happy, life filled with laughter and love.

Now, she remembers.

A memorial service will be held in the spring to honor Dottie's life and legacy.
