Charles Grady Obituary

Charles T. Grady

 Retired, long-time Raytheon Employee

Mr. Charles T. Grady, a resident of the Highlands section of Lowell for most of his life, passed away peacefully, after a period of declining health, at the Palm Manor August 1, 2018, on his 81st birthday.

Born in 1937, Charlie was the son of the late G. Frank and Elizabeth Frances (Burns) Grady.

A graduate of the former St. Margaret’s Grammar School, Charlie continued his education at the former Lowell Trade School, where he gained the knowledge and developed the skills that would enhance his reputation as a valuable employee for more than forty-five years at the Raytheon Company in their missile program.

Those same skills would prompt Charlie’s family to dub him “Mr. Fixit”.  Taking care of the leak under your sink or installing a light switch made “Uncle Charlie” a willing and welcome visitor to your home.  Charlie was an avid reader, an original “computer geek” and the favorite uncle to his twelve nieces and nephews.  He enjoyed, and was quite talented, at sketching with charcoal, working with water colors and oil paints and creating pen and ink drawings.  Earlier in his career he proudly served in the Naval Reserves.

Retiring after 48 years as an Expert Electrical Engineer in Ratheon’s Missile Program, nothing brought Charlie more pleasure and relaxation than floating with the current in his canoe, or standing on the jetty rocks in Hampton Harbor, fishing rod in hand, believing in the dream of every dedicated fisherman, “Today could be the day of the “Big One”!!  Walking being another of his pastimes, Charlie was often seen strolling, purposefully, the streets of the outer Highlands, as well as along the Merrimack River Walkway, always ready to stop and swap “war stories” with an acquaintance or a friendly stranger.

He is survived by his brother, George and his wife Evelyn (Paradis) Grady of Lowell; twelve loving nieces and nephews, Frank W. Grady Jr. and his wife Amy Pawl of Ladue, MO, Annemarie (Grady) Bell of Londonderry, NH, Martha (Grady) Abney and her husband Eric of Fremont, NH, Catherine (Bergeron) Johnson and her husband Steven of Lowell, Paul Bergeron of Woburn, Susan (Bergeron) Mailloux and her husband Robert of Hampton, NH, Andrew Bergeron and his wife Michelle of Lowell, Michael Bergeron and his wife Lucy of Lowell, James Barry and his wife Ana of Nashua, NH, Michelle (Grady) Belfiore and her husband Joseph of Lowell, Robert Grady and his wife Christine of Chelmsford and Brian Grady of Worcester; his sister in law, Ann Grady of Lowell, several grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins and a host of good friends, including his special friend, Claire St. Gelais of Dracut.

Besides his parents, Charlie was pre-deceased by his brother Frank W. Grady in 2017, his sister, Joanne Bergeron-Barry in 2004 and his infant sister, Mary Elizabeth Grady in 1936.
