1936 - 2017

Dracut – Mrs. Norma R. (Beaudoin) Souza, age 81, passed away at her daughter’s home in Derry, NH, on September 17, 2017 with her family by her side.  She was the wife of the late Joseph Anthony “Sookie” Souza who died in 2015.  Born in Lowell on June 25, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Esther H. (Levesque) Beaudoin.  Norma was a longtime resident of Dracut and was an active member of the Ste. Marguerite D’Youville Parish.

Prior to retirement, Norma fed many hungry mouths throughout the Dracut and Lowell area – whether it was as the beloved lunch lady at St. Louis School, or the breakfast cook at ML Shaw’s, or as the owner of Jane & Norma’s Parkside Restaurant.  Cooking was Norma’s expression of love. She was the consummate foodie – with decades-worth of recipe books and magazine clippings to her collection, and she truly loved to cook for those she loved. 
 

In addition to cooking, Norma also worked at Raytheon in the early days and was a Quality Assurance Inspector for Wang Laboratories during the early years of the technology boom.  She often told stories about a sticky letter “K” that would not pass her inspection.  She was a stickler.  After retirement Norma focused her heart and soul on taking care of (and cooking for) her three youngest grandchildren.  To Norma, family meant everything.  She loved spending time with her family but especially with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She enjoyed them so.  Norma also looked forward to spending Wednesday mornings with her close friends, gathering for breakfast, and then setting off to go play bingo at the senior center.  
 

 Surviving her are two daughters and two sons in law, Debra E. Souza and her husband Paul D. Lamothe of Derry and Denise M. and Randy L. Breton of Lowell; nine grandchildren, Brett, Joseph, Joshua, Drew, Chad, Kyle, Kelly, Pamela, and Sierra; 6 great grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Beaudoin of CA and Esther Beaudoin of NC; a brother and sister in law, Paul and Theresa Beaudoin of NJ; also nieces and nephews.  She was the sister of the late Richard and Ronald Beaudoin.

SOUZA – Mrs. Norma R. Souza, age 81, a resident of Dracut and wife of the late Joseph Anthony “Sookie” Souza.  In accordance with her wishes, there will be no visiting hours.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at Ste Marguerite D’Youville Parish, 1340 Lakeview Ave., Dracut.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Those wishing to make a memorial donation are asked to remember Norma with a mass of intention.   Arrangements by the R.
