Michael James O’Malley, age 53, a longtime resident of the Pawtucketville section of Lowell, died on Saturday afternoon, July 23, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a long courageous battle with cancer.  He was the loving husband of Elaine D. (Lupien) O’Malley.

Born in Springfield, MA on June 4, 1963, he was a son of the late Justin L. and Margaret T. (Murphy) O’Malley.

He was educated in the Springfield school system and was a graduate of University of Lowell.  He was employed as a software engineer at the RSA Security division of EMC in Bedford, MA.

Mike was a parishioner of the former Ste Jeanne d’Arc Church. He was very involved with the SJA Summer Basketball League, having served as both a board member and a coach. Mike will be remembered for his incredible sense of humor and unrelenting optimism, as well as his devotion to his family and friends.

Surviving him in addition to his wife Elaine are his two children, Allison M. O’Malley and Justin M. O’Malley both of Lowell; three brothers, three sisters, and their spouses; Timothy and Deborah O’Malley of Georgia, Charles O’Malley of Florida, John and Jennifer O’Malley of Massachusetts, Margaret and Dale Pease of Colorado, Gail O’Malley of Kentucky, and Mary O’Malley of Virginia; his father and mother in law, Normand and Lorraine Lupien of Lowell; his brothers and sisters in law, Richard and Pamela Lupien, Diane and David Loehle, and Denise and John Hines, as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

O’MALLEY – died in Lowell on July 23, 2016.  Michael James O’Malley, age 53, husband of Elaine D. (Lupien) O’Malley.  Relatives and friends may call at the ROLAND W. MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 308 Pawtucket St., Lowell, on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.  ATTENDANT PARKING.  Funeral Thursday morning with a funeral mass to be celebrated at 10 o’clock at St. Mary Magdalen Parish, 95 Lakeview Ave., Tyngsborough.  Committal services will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a memorial contribution to the Target Cancer Foundation (https://targetcancerfoundation.org/support-us/donate/) or the Home Health Foundation (http://www.homehealthfoundation.org/how-your-gift-helps//).
