Ann Marie (Silva) Murphy

“Mama J”

DRACUT - Ann Marie (Silva) Murphy, age 65, a resident of Dracut, passed away on Wednesday morning, January 20, 2016, in Lowell, surrounded by her loving family, following a lengthy period of health challenges.

Born in Lowell, on September 18, 1950, she was the eldest child and only daughter of the late John F. and Alice M. (Barros) Silva.

Ann began a caregiver role at a young age, having assisted with raising her three brothers and several foster children who shared their home.

She was employed as a certified nurse’s assistant for several years, touching the lives of so many until she suffered an aneurysm in 1998.

For several years Ann coached Pop Warner Cheerleading and was nicknamed Mama J, a name that has stuck with her to this day.

Ann loved her family, friends, conversation, laughter, good food and a bottomless cup of coffee, but most of all, she was proud to be the grandmother of her two grandsons, Kenneth and Ryan.

All of her admirable characteristics will continue to live on in her only daughter, Melissa, who cared for her with thoughtfulness and grace for many years.

She is survived by her loving daughter and son in law, Melissa (Jarosz) Gendreau and her husband Kenneth of Dracut; two grandsons, Kenneth and Ryan Gendreau of Dracut; three brothers and three sisters in law, Jack and Gayle Silva of Lowell, Paul and Lynn Silva of Mason, NH and Steven and Sandra Silva of Canterbury, NH; two nephews, Paul Silva Jr. and Daryl Silva; her dear friend, Gail Wallace; and many aunts, uncles and close friends.
